November 7, Snow Hill Home Owner Convenience Center to Close Temporarily for Renovations

Beginning November 7, 2022, the Snow Hill Home Owner Convenience Center (HOCC) will be closed to the public for approximately 90 days, while repairs and upgrades are made to the facility.

“The center's existing wooden bulkheads have reached the end of their useful life and are being replaced with concrete bulkheads,” Public Works Director Dallas Baker said. “The ramp approaches are also being repaved. The work will involve heavy equipment, so for safety reasons the public will not be permitted to enter the site.

Worcester County Government Operating Hours for Monday, October 10

Worcester County Government (WCG) offices, including the five branch libraries and Recreation and Parks, will be closed Monday, October 10, 2022, for the Columbus Day holiday.

The Central Landfill and Homeowner Convenience Centers will be open Monday during standard hours of operation.

WCG offices will resume standard operating hours on Tuesday, October 11. Worcester County staff wish one and all a happy and safe holiday weekend.

Get Set for the Fall 2022 Turkey Bowl Pickleball Tournament with Worcester County Recreation and Parks

Join Worcester County Recreation and Parks for the fall 2022 Turkey Bowl Pickleball Tournament.

This two-day tournament will take place Saturday and Sunday, November 19-20, at the Worcester County Recreation Center in Snow Hill. Saturday will be men’s and women’s doubles, and Sunday will be mixed doubles. Doors will open and check-in will begin at 7:30 a.m. Gameplay will start at 8:00 a.m.

Join Worcester County Recreation and Parks for Track or Treat

Worcester County Recreation & Parks invites youth and families for a night of safe Trick or Treating. Track or Treat will take place at the Worcester County Recreation Center in Snow Hill on Friday, October 28, from 6-8 p.m.

This family-fun event is open to youth ages 12 and under.  Local vendors will hand out goodies to the kids. Children should come dressed in their Halloween costumes and bring their bags to collect goodies. 

Stay Fit, Have Fun this Fall with Adult Fitness Classes at Worcester County Recreation and Parks

Stay fit and active with Worcester County Recreation and Parks this fall. Registration is now open for adult fitness classes, including Core Training, Early Bird Morning Fitness, and PiYo, at the Worcester County Recreation Center in Snow Hill.

Core Training, open to those 18 and older, is a high-intensity class that focuses on building core strength and muscles. Each session is designed to get participant’s heart rates pumping and sweat dripping. Classes will meet October 3 through November 23 each Monday and Wednesday from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.

Bay and coastal flooding projected through Tuesday in Worcester - Residents urged to implement common-sense measures

Snow Hill, Maryland (October 3, 2022) – Worcester County is experiencing a coastal storm, with flooding, rain, and wind. From mid-day Monday, Oct. 3, through Tuesday morning, areas along the bay and coast will likely experience moderate to major flooding through the next two high-tide cycles.

Flood levels of one-to-two feet above ground level are forecast for the following inland areas: Glen Riddle, Keyser Point Road, Rum Point, Isle of Wight, Mystic Harbour, Snug Harbor, South Point, Public Landing, and Figgs Landing.

Coastal Flooding expected through Monday evening

Coastal Flooding is expected through Monday night in Worcester County. 

Widespread flooding of vulnerable areas will result in an elevated threat of property damage to homes and businesses near the waterfront and shoreline. Water will be 1 to 2 feet above ground level in some areas resulting in a sufficient depth to close numerous roads and threaten homes and businesses.
 
Flooding will extend inland from the waterfront along tidal rivers and bays resulting in some road closures and flooding of vehicles.

Worcester County Emergency Services urges public to prepare for Tropical Storm Ian

Worcester County Emergency Services (WCES) officials urge area residents to prepare for inclement weather ahead of Tropical Storm Ian. National Weather Service forecasters are predicting four to six inches of rain with possible minor coastal flooding, and high winds with gusts up to 45 mph to impact Worcester County from Friday through Sunday morning.

WCES officials are monitoring the storm track and are urging the public to begin implementing precautionary measures.

Tee Off for Youth Golf Tournament rescheduled for November 4

Due to anticipated inclement weather this weekend, the Tee Off for Youth Golf Tournament and Fundraiser at the Ocean City Golf Club has been rescheduled for Friday, November 4, 2022, with an 11 a.m. tee off time.

Registration will remain open until Monday, October 31. The cost to participate is $80 per golfer, and all proceeds generated by this event will benefit underprivileged youth who participate in Worcester County Recreation and Parks youth programs, leagues, after school activities, and summer camps.

Harbor Day at The Docks by Maryland’s Coast October 15th

Celebrate with Worcester County Recreation and Parks at Harbor Day at the Docks on Saturday, October 15, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The event will take place along Sunset Avenue in the West Ocean City commercial harbor.

Entrance to this family-friendly, maritime heritage festival is free, and complimentary bus service will be available to shuttle patrons to and from the OC Park N’ Ride to the event parking lot.
