Worcester County to Host Citizens Scrap Tire Drop-Off Day October 7

The Worcester County Commissioners and the Public Works Recycling Division, in conjunction with the Maryland Department of the Environment and Maryland Environmental Services, will host Citizens Scrap Tire Drop-Off Day on Saturday, October 7, 2023, from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. This event will take place at the Central Landfill in Newark.

Worcester County residents are encouraged to get rid of their old, scrap, passenger and light truck tires free of charge, with a limit of 10 tires per household (photo ID required).

Road Closure: Wed. – Thurs., Aug 30-31, Evans Road

Road Closure: Wed. – Thurs., Aug 30-31, Evans Road, located between Cedar Lane Rd and Ironshire Station Rd, will be closed for two days while road crews replace two failed crossroad pipes. Crews anticipate being able to open the roadway at the end of each business day and reclosing it the following morning.

Worcester County Offices Closed Labor Day, September 4

Worcester County Government offices, including the Central Landfill in Newark, Homeowner Convenience Centers, Worcester County Recreation Center, and the five branch libraries, will be closed Monday, September 4, 2023, for the Labor Day holiday.

WCG offices will resume standard operating hours on Tuesday, September 5. WCG staff wish one and all a happy and safe holiday weekend.

ROAD CLOSURE: Mon., Aug. 21, St. Lukes Road from Rt. 12 to Green Briar Swamp Road will be closed for two days while road crews replace a failed crossroad pipe, weather permitting. The following detours will be available:
If heading North on Rt.12, turn left on Nassawango Church Rd. Turn left onto Coulbourn Mill Rd, follow to St. Lukes Rd.
If heading South on Rt.12, turn right onto Nassawango Church Rd. Turn left onto Coulbourn Mill Rd, follow to St. Lukes Rd.

Keenan Steps Into New Role As Recycling Manager

Snow Hill, Maryland (August 10, 2023) – The Worcester County Commissioners named Robert Keenan as the new recycling manager in the Solid Waste Division of Public Works.

“Bob is a great guy who is always willing to help and goes above and beyond when taking on a project,” Public Works Director Dallas Baker said. “His energy and enthusiasm make him a great fit to lead the recycling team in Worcester County.”

Public urged to prepare for severe winds, causing downed trees and power lines

            Snow Hill, Maryland (August 7, 2023) – Worcester County Emergency Services (WCES) officials urge area residents to prepare for damaging winds tonight beginning as early as 6 p.m.

National Weather Service (NWS) forecasters are predicting severe weather conditions in Worcester County, to include wind gusts of 60-80 mph, which may cause significant tree and power line damage, up to one-half inch of rain, which could cause localized flooding in poor drainage areas, and a small chance of tornadoes.
