Revised Worcester County Government Christmas and New Year Holiday Schedules

Snow Hill, Maryland (December 21, 2022) – The following Worcester County Government (WCG) offices will be closed this Friday and Monday, December 23 and 26, and January 2 in observance of the Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays: Worcester County Government Center, Cape Isle of Wight satellite offices, Worcester County Recreation Center (WCRC), and Worcester County Library.

In addition, all five branch libraries will also be closed December 24 and will close at 1 p.m. on December 31. 

Registration is Open for Youth Active Start Sports with Worcester County Recreation and Parks

Worcester County Recreation and Parks is launching its ever-popular Active Start Youth Sport Development Programs this winter for children of all skill levels. These sport-specific programs prepare children for organized sports in a fun, non-threatening environment by teaching the fundamentals of play, while encouraging an appreciation for being physically fit and healthy.

Worcester County Recreation & Parks Serves Up Adult Volleyball Leagues This Winter

Worcester County Recreation Parks is offering co-ed and women’s volleyball leagues at the Worcester County Recreation Center (WCRC) in Snow Hill this January. 

Co-Ed Volleyball will take place Sundays from 1-3 p.m. beginning January 8. The registration deadline is January 5. The coaches meeting will take place January 5 at the WCRC at 7 p.m. This league will be made up of teams with two women playing at all times.

Sign Up for Winter Youth Leagues with Worcester County Recreation & Parks

Registration is open for Worcester County Recreation & Parks youth sports leagues at the Worcester County Recreation Center in Snow Hill, providing participants with plenty of opportunities to get active and have fun this winter season. Youth leagues provide opportunities for young athletes to play with others in a structured, game-play environment.

Skate with Worcester County Recreation and Parks This Holiday Season

Worcester County Recreation and Parks is offering opportunities this holiday season for the community to skate with their friends and family during Skate with Santa on December 21 and Open Skate from Dec. 27-30. These free events are open to all ages and will take place in scenic Sturgis Park in Snow Hill.

Skate with Santa will take place December 21 from 6-8 p.m. Participants will have opportunities to ice skate, decorate ornaments, hop on a train ride, enjoy festive music, sip on hot chocolate, and get a picture with Santa.

Worcester County Commissioners Elect New President and Vice President

Snow Hill, Maryland – On December 6, 2022, the Worcester County Commissioners elected Commissioner Chip Bertino to serve as president and Jim Bunting to serve as vice president of the board.

Commissioner Bertino was elected to the board in 2014 to represent District Five, the Ocean Pines District, and he is currently serving his third term in office. Commissioner Bertino represents the County Commissioners on the Wor-Wic Community College Board of Trustees and on the Maryland Association of Counties (MACo) Legislative Committee.

Worcester County 4-H Robotics Intermediate Team Takes First Place in Maryland 4-H State Robotics Challenge

Snow Hill, Maryland (Dec. 6, 2022) - The commissioners present commendations to members of the Worcester County 4-H Robotics Intermediate Team for taking first place in the Maryland 4-H State Robotics Challenge at the 2022 Maryland State Fair. Congratulations go out these young people for their exemplary performance.

Head to the Drive-In This December for Free Movies & Laser Shows in Maryland’s Coast

Worcester County Recreation & Parks (WCRP) is hosting two, free drive-in movies and laser shows in Maryland’s Coast, Worcester County this December. Be sure to save the date for these new WCRP events.

On Friday, December 9, The Polar Express will air on the big screen at John Walter Smith Park, which is located at 6022 Public Landing Rd in Snow Hill. Then on Saturday, December 10, The Grinch will play at Newtown Park, which is located at 2001 Groton Road in Pocomoke. Following both movies, laser shows will light up the skies.
