Roads Resurfacing Begins on December 5th

Starting Dec. 5, Roads Division contractor, Allan Myers, will begin resurfacing various county roads, weather permitting. Work will begin on McCabes Corner Road, then move on to Cherrix, Holly Swamp, St. Lukes, Greenbriar, and Shingle Landing Roads. Flaggers will be on hand to safely guide motorists through work zones. Motorcyclists, please be aware of uneven pavement surface during the project.

Maryland’s Coast Team Recognized for Major Contributions to State Tourism

Maryland’s Coast – Worcester County Tourism and Economic Development (WCTED) received top accolades for making major contributions to state tourism during the 42nd annual Maryland Travel and Tourism Summit. WCTED Director Melanie Pursel was named Tourism Advocate of the Year. She and her team earned the prestigious Office of Tourism Development (OTD) Leveraging Partnerships Award for their Maryland’s Coast Adventures project. They also received the Cooperative Partnership Award and three additional awards for excellence during the summit.

Worcester County Government 2023 Thanksgiving Holiday Schedule

Worcester County Government (WCG) offices, including the Worcester County Recreation Center (WCRC) and all five branch libraries, will be closed Thursday and Friday, November 23 and 24, 2023 for Thanksgiving Day and American Indian Heritage Day. In addition, the libraries will be closed Saturday, Nov. 25.

The Central Landfill in Newark and the Berlin and Pocomoke Homeowner Convenience Centers (HOCC) will be closed Thursday, Nov. 23. Standard hours of operation at these facilities will resume Friday, Nov. 24.

Worcester encourages tourism businesses to apply now for attraction signs

Snow Hill, Maryland (October 20, 2023) – The Maryland Statewide Tourist Area Corridor (TAC) Signing Program application period is open now to November 30, and Worcester County Tourism and Economic Development (WCTED) officials urge local qualifying businesses and points of interest to apply.

TAC signs are installed along selected state and county roads to guide motorists to Maryland recreational facilities, historical attractions, and cultural treasures. New businesses as well as those that have applied in the past must reapply for consideration.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day at Central Landfill in Newark October 28

The Worcester County Public Works Recycling Division will host Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Day on Saturday, October 28, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Central Landfill in Newark, Maryland.

HHW, computer towers, and laptops may be dropped off for safe disposal. No keyboards, mouses, or other electronics will be accepted.
