Worcester County Hosting Public Engagement Sessions for Parks and Open Space Plan

 

Snow Hill, Maryland – As part of the 2027 Worcester County Land Preservation, Parks and Recreation Plan (LPPRP) updating process, Worcester County Recreation and Parks and Environmental Programs professionals invite area residents to participate in public engagement sessions on January 27 and February 5, 2026. Residents are also invited to take part in the LPPRP survey before the deadline of April 1 at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/QRCJPH6.

Channel Under US Rt. 50 Bridge Closed to Marine Traffic for Rehabilitation Project

Now through approximately March 20, the channel under the U.S. Rt. 50 Bridge (Harry W. Kelley Memorial Bridge over the Sinepuxent Bay) will remain closed to marine traffic, while Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) crews repair the mechanical interlock system of the draw span.

SHA officials advise that vessels that are able to pass under the flanking spans are permitted to do so.

January 12 Join Panel of Subject Matter Experts to Examine Impacts of Proposed Offshore Windfarm

Ocean City, MD – Join a panel of nationally-recognized, subject-matter experts to analyze how U.S. Wind’s proposal to construct a windfarm beginning roughly 10.7 miles off the coast of Ocean City, Maryland could devastate coastal economies, marine ecosystems, public safety, and energy costs. This public forum will take place Monday, January 12, at 5:30 p.m. at the Roland E. Powell Convention Center on 40th Street in Ocean City.

Snow Hill, Maryland (December 23, 2025) – Worcester County Government (WCG) is accepting grant applications from area non-profit agencies now through Friday, January 23, 2026.

Worcester County offers Christmas tree recycling to residents

The Solid Waste Division of Worcester County Public Works is hosting its annual collection of Christmas trees December 26, 2025 through January 31, 2026. Area residents can drop off Christmas trees at the Central Landfill in Newark and the Berlin, Pocomoke, and Snow Hill Homeowners Convenience Centers at no cost.

Businesses and organizations that sold trees will not be permitted to drop off trees at the convenience centers, but may take them to the Central Landfill where applicable tipping fees will be assessed.

Worcester County Government Christmas and New Year Holiday Schedules

Worcester County Government offices will be closed Wednesday and Thursday, December 24-25, 2025, for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and Thursday, January 1, 2026, for New Year’s Day.

All five branch libraries and the Worcester County Recreation Center in Snow Hill will also be closed December 24-25 and January 1.

The Central Landfill in Newark, and the Homeowner Convenience Centers in Berlin, Snow Hill, and Pocomoke will be open December 24 and will be closed December 25 and January 1.

Newly Adopted Room Tax Rate of 6.0% Effective January 1, 2026

Snow Hill, Maryland – Effective January 1, 2026, the hotel rental tax rate imposed on all short-term rentals (4 months or less) within Worcester County will increase from 5% to 6%. This tax is calculated on the amount paid for a room or building rental at any hotel, motel, apartment, cottage, or other similar place providing sleeping accommodations.
