Applications Available Online for Non-Profit Grants from Worcester County Government

Snow Hill, Maryland (December 20, 2024) – Worcester County Government (WCG) is accepting grant applications from area non-profit agencies now through Tuesday, January 28, 2025.

Applications are available to download as a PDF at www.co.worcester.md.us. Once there, the link to the Non-Profit Grant Application can be found under “Important Links” on the right-hand side of the web page.

Worcester County Government Christmas and New Year’s Day Holiday Schedules

The following Worcester County Government (WCG) offices will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday, December 24-25, 2024, for Christmas and Wednesday, January 1, 2025, for New Year’s Day: government center, Cape Isle of Wight satellite offices, Central Landfill in Newark and the Homeowner Convenience Centers in Berlin, Snow Hill, and Pocomoke.

All five branch libraries and the Worcester County Recreation Center in Snow Hill will also be closed December 24-25 and January 1.

WCG staff wish one and all a safe and happy holiday season.

Worcester County Commissioner Chip Bertino Appointed to MACo Board of Directors

Snow Hill, Maryland – On December 12, 2024, during the Maryland Association of Counties winter conference in Cambridge, Governor Wes Moore installed the MACo Board of Directors for 2025. Worcester County Commissioner Chip Bertino was one of 16 county elected officials from across Maryland to be installed to the board for the coming year.

Worcester County Commissioners take historic action to protect commercial maritime harbor

Snow Hill, Maryland  – On December 17, 2024, the Worcester County Commissioners launched efforts to purchase two properties located in the West Ocean City (WOC) commercial maritime harbor to protect the county’s historic commercial and sport fishing industries. These sites, which house the only two commercial seafood wholesalers where watermen can offload and sell their catches, are the Southern Connection Seafood and the Martin Fish Company properties.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Ironshire Station Road Wednesday, December 18

Wednesday, December 18, beginning at 8:30 a.m., Ironshire Station Road will be closed while crews repair a failed crossroad pipe. The project should be completed that same day, with the road to reopen between noon and 3:30 pm.

Detour: motorist can use Bethards Road to Patey Woods Road to Nine Pin Branch Road. They can also use Bethards Road to Evans Road to Cedar Lane Road.
 

Report finds Worcester County’s OPEB liability decreased by nearly $45 million in FY24

Snow Hill, Maryland – Worcester County is making giant strides toward fully funding Other Post Employment Benefits (OPEB) Trusts for County and Board of Education (BOE) retirees. That’s according to a valuation by Menard Consulting, Inc., which confirms that in fiscal year (FY) 2024 Worcester County’s OPEB liability for the BOE decreased by $44.8 million. This brings the County much closer to the goal of eliminating the need for General Fund revenues to pay the cost of healthcare benefits for retirees.

Worcester County Government 2024 Thanksgiving Holiday Schedule

Worcester County Government (WCG) offices, including the Worcester County Recreation Center and all five branch libraries, will be closed Thursday and Friday, November 28 and 29, 2024, for Thanksgiving Day and American Indian Heritage Day. In addition, the libraries will be closed Saturday, Nov. 30.

The Central Landfill in Newark and the Berlin, Pocomoke, and Snow Hill Homeowner Convenience Centers (HOCC) will be closed Thursday, Nov. 28. Standard hours of operation at these facilities will resume Friday, Nov. 29.
