Residents Invited to Review the Draft 2026 Worcester County Comprehensive Plan

Worcester County residents are encouraged to review and provide feedback on the draft 2026 Comprehensive Plan and Land Use Map, a guiding document that will shape the County’s future growth and development.

On March 4, 2026, the Worcester County Planning Commission submitted the draft Comprehensive Plan to the State of Maryland, where it will undergo a 60-day review. The Comprehensive Plan serves as the County’s long-term roadmap, informing decisions related to land use, zoning, transportation, housing, environmental protection, and infrastructure.

“This document is the culmination of two years of planning efforts,” Development, Review and Permitting Director Jennifer Keener said. “Public participation has been a priority throughout the process, from the strong turnout reflected in the 2023 Public Engagement Report to the feedback collected through surveys accompanying each draft chapter.”

Additional opportunities for public input will be available following the State’s review. The Planning Commission will conduct a public hearing before making a recommendation on the plan. A separate public hearing will then be scheduled with the Worcester County Commissioners prior to adoption by resolution.

County officials encourage all residents to take part in the process. The plan may be updated to reflect community feedback before it is finalized.
